Pre-baiting is feeding the lake or river system regularly before and after you fish, to build a high potential catching spot to which the carp regularly return to feed. This method will virtually guarantee that there will be more carp for you to catch, and that the fish you catch will be consistently larger.
The normal amount to pre-bait is around 2-5 kilos per week with continued feeding through out the season. Most - if not all - specimen carp anglers pre-bait and some, more dedicated anglers will continue to feed the lake throughout the colder months, perhaps reducing the amount of feed but still visiting the lake weekly and using higher quantities to make up for the less-frequent visits.
Many carp anglers will differ in the amount of bait they use. Some opt for the less-feed- more-regularly approach, but the quantity of feed will still reach 5 kilos a week. Others may only pre-bait once a week and again after they pack up from a session. It really depends on your time schedule and how much time you can spend at the water feeding, observing and fishing. If your time is limited, try the instant approach. If you want to build the carp’s confidence in your bait and in your chosen spot, then go slow to start with and watch the results. If it’s working and you’re catching more fish straight away, opt for 2 kilos of pre-baiting when you’re not fishing and increase the amount when you feel you have enough experience to go to the next level: 5 kilos.
This is the normal approach for the dedicated carp angler. Fishing and feeding these quantities will guarantee more carp getting on your baits, and will produce better multiple sized carp when you’re actually fishing. Check out the bulk discount offers for purchasing pre-bait stock.
