62 Carp in 72 hours on BBQ
23/05/2009
Friday the 15th of May, I was driving back from work wondering where to fish for the weekend using BBQ Sardine and oyster boilies, and finally decided to fish Shearwater. Being runs water was a good venue to start with the possibility of landing a half decent carp or a good few.

I fished 3 rods at about 75 - 100 yards in front of the boat house on aprox 1kg of loose boilies. As a hookbait I fished a 15mm Sardine and Oyster boilie with a 10mm fluro pop up to give me a snowman style setup but also KD rig style but without the boilie shot.

There was around 20 fisherman on the lake, 10 or so on the road side either up the top end at the shallows, or bottom end in the deeper water. I chose to fish half way with empty swims to my left and right. This pretty much paid off as within the first 20 minutes my alarm sounded and I was into a 5lb stocky mirror. (Fat as hell).

Although I found my boilies to maybe be a tad hard I continued to put out free offerings to my swim, and my rods kept on running all night, all Saturday, Saturday night, and Sunday. On the last day I landed the biggest of the trip, a 17lb mirror. Yeehaa..

By the time it was time to pack up I had landed a total of 62 fish. 22 Mirror carp ranging from 5 - 17 lb with some good doubles, 4 tench 3lb ish, 5 bream 2 - 3 lb and the rest commons between 4 and 12lb. Although big catches are known on this lake, 64 fish in 72 hours in pretty good going. As I had no other anglers next to me to take pictures I did a few in the net and a few were taken by passersby.
I think I pretty much wiped the floor with all the other carpers on the lake. I know that 2 anglers who were fishing 72 hours also a few swims to my left, only had 9 between them. Due to my local knowledge of the water and presentation of my new bait, I had the upper hand. I had a few others asking me how I was catching so many fish, infact during a chat with another fisherman, I had a run on one rod, then the other, which ended up with 2 fish on the bank, just as I was putting one of the rods back out, my third screamed off. unusual but great. And of course I showed him that I was using your boilies. I also noticed a few of the mirrors were crapping out my freebies onto my matt so I think they were enjoying them.
Good job :)
