100lb session on Tigernut & Peanut

10/09/2009

All the following fish were caught with 18mm Tigernut & Peanut boilies.

22lb 7oz common

I started a 3 day, 100lb+ session with this beauty. Approx. 3m from the bank on a gravel patch just about visible with polarised glasses. I laid a bed of crushed and whole boilies with a handful of sweet corn over a 1ft area and placed my rig just on top with the lead off the edge of the mix. I was using a free-running bolt rig, 2oz lead, 8” of soft coated hooklink with a size 8 wide gape hook. The bait was positioned with 2mm clear at the base of the hook to allow free presentation.

25lb 6oz common

This came from 40-50m from the bank from a gravel patch, approx 8ft deep on the 3rd day of the 100lb session. I used a homemade spod mix consisting of sweetcorn, tigernuts, hemp, maize, birdseed & crushed boilies (Tigernut & Peanut). I fired out 15 spods at first, and then kept the swim fed using an extra 10 spods each morning after. I was using a small 60g in-line lead attached to a rig consisting of 12” of 12lb Fluorocarbon with a size 6 curved shank hook, leaving 1” between bottom of hook and top of boilie. I finished off the bait with a fake sweetcorn hiding the hair stop.

24lb 1oz common

Using a marker float setup I found a gravel patch 60m from the swim and started to spod the area with a homemade mix of sweetcorn, hemp, maize, tigernuts, birdseed & crushed boilies. I used a simple rig of a running clip for the lead, a swivel buffer bead and 12” of 12lb braid tied to a size 8 wide gape. The boilie was positioned just below the base of the hook (2mm).

25lb 11oz common

Using a marker float once again I located a raised gravel bar approx 40m from the swim, at 3 foot depth. I started this rig with a simple bolt rig and a 2oz pear, I then used 6” of 10lb fluorocarbon tied to white braid(double uni-knot) leaving 3” from fluoro to a size 10 straight shank hook. Once this was done I started to camouflage the hook, hooklink, lead and mainline to break up the lines as they would be in shallow water. As for bait, I only used 1 boilie on the hair (10mm from base of hook to bait) and 5 on a stringer for freebies. I actually caught this fish a few weeks before (above at 25lb 6oz).
