The Seargent on BBQ Sardine & Oyster

I recently joined a local syndicate in Essex and had done a handful of nights landing a few fish up to 29lbs on particles, after speaking to a few of the regulars it became clear the carp in my new venue loved a boilie or two! So I purchased some BBQ sardine & oyster from Ocean Fresh. Planning to fish Sunday night I popped down the night before & put out half a kilo over two spots I liked the look of. The first being a hard spot on the back of a weed bed about 20 yards out and the second being across a small channel to the far margin tight to a lovely overhanging bush. I arrived the next night & my swim was empty which it’s always a relief after pre-baiting a spot.

My rigs consisting of a ESP lead clip as I wanted to lose the lead instantly due to the weed, a 3 oz distance lead & a 6inch 15lb Merlin hooklink tied to a ESP curve shanked hook size 5 went out a treat with the leads clonking down as they hit the bed of the lake. I waited for my PVA nuggets to pop to the surface & fired around 100 baits on each spot. I try not to use a marker to keep disturbance down to a minimum. With the rods out I had a cuppa and settled down for the night around 11.30pm my left hand rod out to the weed bed burst into life an absolute ripper I scrambled out of my bivvy and hit into the fish it fought long & hard taking deep lounges out into the lake after a good 20min scrap the carp was in my net. I flicked on my head torch and laying there looking at me was one of the lakes sought after mirrors called the Sergeant a bit down in weight hitting the scales at 24lb 4oz

25lb 2oz mirror on BBQ Sardine & Oyster

I was delighted and after some photos I slipped the beauty back then put the rod back out to the spot once again. 5.30am and I was woken by my right hand rod belting off this time after another great battle I managed to land a 25lb 2oz mirror a great result being my first night on the bait I also had a common about 15lb as I was packing up. I’ve since done a further night landing another 3 fish a 22lb 10oz a 21lb 12oz & a double.

Speak again next month
