December Catch Report

I had to chance to fish Friday night to Sunday afternoon. With this in mind I thought I’d do a bit of pre-baiting. With working at another branch at work for a month was only a mile away from the lake. First week spent my hour lunch break every day over the lake looking for where the carp were spending their time and with the aid of my marker rod check depths and lake bed surfaces. After that week I had worked out where the carp spent most of their time and the depths and lake bed differences I was going to fish down the deeper end where its 16ft in the middle and 3ft margins with undercut banks. So in the second week at lunch times I was putting bait on spots where I’d seen carp in. I was baiting 3 spots as we are aloud 3 rods in the winter.

1st was on the opposite bank tight to a set of reeds in 3ft of water with a hard silty bottom. 2nd spot was mid water on a clay spot 16ft 3rd was tight to the opposite bank undercut 2ft with a clay bottom which I was baiting with the aid of my throwing stick by putting the stick in the water and pushing under the bank and dropping the baits through the stick so they went right under the bank. After a week of pre-baiting 8kg of scopex squid 5 kg of hemp, I was ready to fish straight from work on the Friday night. With all baits on the spots, 1st reeds spot bait placed with the aid of my 8 meter baiting pole 2nd spot cast to the far bank then place the rig by hand under the bank 3rd spot casted out.

The first take was a 6.30 resulting in a 14lb mirror on the 3rd rod then again at 8pm with a better 20lb mirror.

Each spot was baited with 15 baits and a hand full of hemp to start then another 15 baits and hand full of hemp upon each take. So the summery of the weekend was 27 takes 18 carp biggest two twenty’s and 4 bream, lost 5. The bulk of the fish were from the 3rd rod with 2 from the middle and 5 from the reeds. I fished 10inch rig on the first rod inline setup 2oz lead size 10 mugger hook sufix black silk hook link. 2nd rod multirig popped up half inch size 10 mugger kamelion hooklink  3oz lead 3rd rod same as first but 6 inch hooklink.
