I thought I’d let you know of a lake that has come to my attention over the last couple of weeks. It’s an old quarry that was turned into a boating lake a good few years ago and at around 50 acres  it’s pretty big. I walk the dog around it and have never seen anyone carp fishing, only pike fisherman. I’ve recently seen some pictures of some carp that have been caught there in the last few months, and there are some real nice fish, the guy was also kind enough to give me a clue of where to put a few baits so over the next few days I made a plan of attack. The lake isn’t too far from me so over the week I walked the lake and scattered a few boilies in the spots I had been told about. The following weekend I had planned a trip to the A1 pits so off I went early Saturday morning down the A1. I got there to find all the lakes but pit 5 and 6 were froze over, as you can imagine I was gutted. I knew that the lake back home wouldn’t be frozen over, due its size and the fact that it’s like the sea when there’s a wind blowing.

I managed to get my rods out just before dark and was just hoping that the fish would have had chance to get onto the bait that I threw in earlier in the week. I fished just 2 rods as it was too dark to get the 3rd out accurately. I fished one on the scopex squid, red robin fluro pop-ups and the other on a normal bottom bait. I was in the bivvy all the time as it was really dropping cold and I was expecting some bad weather. At around 9pm I received a take on my right hand rod so I jumped out of the bag and rushed to the rod I lifted into a good fish and after a long battle in the sleet I managed to net the large mirror. I got it on the mat and knew it was a big one so I got out the sack and carefully sacked the fish up in the margins. I phoned my mate to come and photograph the fish for me and started to make a brew for when he arrived. When he got there we took the fish out and weighed her at 24lb 2ounce. We got the photos and my mate rushed off for work, he should have been there at 10pm so he was a little late ha.

I returned the fish and didn’t even cast the rod back out I was that cold even with my mates ski coat that I borrowed ha ha. The rest of the night was eventless and I woke to find my rods frozen in, even the eos-r was frozen solid! I packed up and made my way home looking forward to the next session and what else the lake has to offer.
