Succes on a new water met GLM.

We are in the middle of the summer, end of July, and I wait impatiently on a telephone of the owner for an approval of a fishing a new water. Soon I have the owner on the line and payment is sent and my permit has been authorised. Immediately with this done a day later I drove to the new water for my first night. It is a small water with an average depth of 2.5 m and a free equal bottom profile. The truce had gone over I already through the seeing of the photo album of a friend I knew there were a good head of thirty’s and two fish in there forties. I immediately knew my target fish!!

When I arrived at the water, it was calm, no wind and very warm. The three fishing rods were sailed with a electric boat and my package to be delivered was 20 broken boilies and my hook bait in an amino mussel stick. A fishing rod in my margin, my middle and the third against the other side. After only observation, I expected my far margin rods to be the first to come to life. After 10 minutes waiting the first fish came on my own margin rod. A scale of 13 kg UK28.6lb. I replaced the rod with a good feeling and crawled in my sleeping bag knowing an exciting night was ahead of me. I awake by my screaming sounder box that the stick on the far margin was now in action. I stood with a well bent rod and after a long drill, I was ready to net the fish. The weigh master indicated 18 kg, a lovely round leather UK39.6lb. The fish was delivered back to his home carefully in a carp sack and I sailed the stick again with amino glugged on my hook mussel glugged on my hook bait, no free offerings this time. That night yet 2 small scales on the side and a row carp of 11.8 kg UK25.9lb and my first session was a total success. N the morning I took the carp from the sack and we weighed it again and took some great photos thanks to a friend coming down that morning. The next day I was back and fed 2.5 kg GLM in the back part of the water which I saw one of the forties jump the day before.

The next day I spent 3 hours with a marker float sussing out the back part of the lakes bottom for features all I could find was a flat hard bottom that was much shallower than the part I was fishing earlier. I used my boat to get my baits as close and I could under the far margin trees and shrubs. I fed 2.5 kg GLM in the back part of the water which I saw one of the forties jump the day before. At 3pm I had both stick rods out nd later at 7pm the left hand one was off fast. From me heaing the take and hittingthe rod the carp had 40 m thread off the spool. After a 20 minute fight aqnd thinking she was ready for the net she was off again like a bulldozer and there was little I could do to stop her. This fish was strong!!!! Eventually after 45 minutes of hard drilling, she lay wet on my mat a beautiful scale just over 17.1 kg UK37.6lb. After a telephone to a friend I told him of the drill of the fish and he said that is the strongest fish of the water even the larger residents don’t fight as hard as this one. It was the hardest fishing carp I had ever caught. What a beautiful colour and in pristine condition.

That same night I caught yet 2 more mirrors: 12.8kg UK28.1lb and 12.5 UK27.5lb and a scale of 14.5kgUK31.5lb. I left that water after two days fishing with an awesome feeling. I already two fish over 30lb on new water!!! I came back shortly later!!!

I planned to stay for two nights this time, when I arrived at the lake there were already two other loud anglers on the bank drunk. I had a quick chat finding out where their lines were and what success they had. In one nights fishing they landed two small specimen commons just over 10kg UK 22lb. My choice of attack was made quickly and I decided to get as far away as these people as I could and the far end of the water in the shallows, where my previous success had come. The sticks were sailed fast, 2 in the corner with GLM, one rod had 30 boilies around it the other fished single soaked in amino liquid food mussel. The third rod in my margin was with tin a bag of broken boilies and amino glug. After 2 hours I had already my first beep on far heavy baited rod. The fish came really easy in and after only a few minutes later the weigh master hit 17.2kg UK37.8lb No small specimen for me. The session had started lovely!!! The next rod was my margin rod of a mirror of about 11kg UK24.2lb and then in the early afternoon I received a take, my middle rod was finally in the action with a long scale of 16.6kg UK36.5lb.

In that evening I had another four carps the smallest scale of 9kg UK19.8lb. That’s when I hit the beers and soon became happy drunk and the sticks were dropped off once more. The largest of these fish were 2 scales of 13.9kg UK30.58lb and 15.6kg UK34.3lb.

The first night ended and the morning I had another 4 fish the heaviest a long scale of 14.5kg UK31.9lb In the late afternoon I had a hard run on the middle stick. I wondered if I had recaptured the tough one again? After 50 minute battle from one side of the lake to the other, this carp knew all the snags and was taking me into all the overhanging tree swims along the far margin with a bent fishing rod I eventually got it to the bank and there behold on my mat was the strong one down in weight by just under half a kilo weighing in at 17.6kg UK38.7lb. Further single photographs shot with the help of and friend. In the course of the day was the calm and again I land a mirror of 12.5kg. UK27.5lb. In the evening another came my way at 14.8kg UK32.5lb. The fish was recognizably at the tail and I had him before already in it at 14.5 kg and so there for returned with no photo. The 2nd night a single beep came from may heavy baited far rod. I stood next to the rod and watch for tip action. Not convinced I picked up the rod and felt the line. As soon as I did this the carp bolted and I was in again. The fish came in quite slow and after a 20 minute drill I had recaptured that beautiful mirror on the first session on 18 kg, now remained the needle hang on 18.2 kg. As it was pitch black and I already had the best photos of this carp I quickly reurn the fish back to the dark water. The stick was sailed again and in the morning, I caught yet another beautiful mirror of 15.1kg UK33.2lb.

In two nights time I had 16 runs and landed 15 fish and 6 of them were Dutch 30’s. All the big carp came from my far rods the middle and the far right. This was my first session on new water fishing a bait the carp had not seen before.
