35lb Common out of a 50 foot hole

As the big lake I would like to fish is closed until June, I had no opportunity than checking out the small hole in the fields which lays on my new way to work. Well I found out that it is a really deep hole with a max. depth of 50 feet and a size of maybe 1 acre plus.

On my first visit I walked around looking for some fish activities but there was nothing to see. I decided to put a few baits of my new baits out (Ocean Fresh's Green Lipped Mussel) in the margins where the next day I could see if anything was eaten. So to my surprise the next morning the baits weren't there. My first thought was like 'Blame it on the birds', but there were no birds on this small water. Maybe there are some fish in.

Today is Monday, let's try again and feed two places with three hands full of Green Lipped Mussel 15mms and some peanuts. On Wednesday and Friday I did the same and every time I was there to look after the baits in the water, they were gone. Saturday arrived and i decided to do a short overnighter. In the clear water I put out a stiff link pop-up rig with a 15mm greeny on the one rod and a peanut bottom rig on the other. That was at 7am on saturday morning.

What could I expect of such a small water ?

After only three hours I heard a painfull ringing in my ears and I thought that were some after-effects of the swine influenza I have had. But as I saw the pop-up rod bending towards the right side in the direction of the deep water I knew that there was fish on. Now I was standing there on a slop with my rod bent round and the reel screaming. The fish fought very hard on the short distance and after 15 minutes I had a really beautiful common in the net, caught on the green lipped mussel pop-up. On the mat, I couldn't believe it, what a cracker!! 35lbs hard fighting scales on the greeny ones.

                               35lbs on the first try

Because of the disturbance the fish made on such a small water there was no chance of another bite. Or was this the only habitant of the deep hole?

Maybe more to come...
