Over 150lb Carp this month on SSRR
23/05/2010
What a month, despite a heavy workload I have smashed out a few quality sessions, guess the sun helps with the motivation.
I have joined a local club who restrict news of fish and venues but I think I can publish the fish so long as I keep the venues quiet. Ripped out another 20+ just shy of my previous PB, but who cares the bait is working and the fish love it. I have landed well over 150lb of quality carp this month, nearly all double figures but only the one 20+. The bait is also attracting large tench, which whilst not always welcome does prove the rigs.

I have concentrated on early mornings/late evenings with one overnight session which provided the big one.
I have been reading Ali Hamidi’s book recently and must say my catch rate has soared and I am now making the most of the bites provided by Ocean Fresh’s Scopex Squid Liver plus Robin Red Carp Bait.
I have rigged them all to lead leaders and 20lb braid fished on the hair. I am finding that half a 15mm Pop up over a 15mm trimmed boilie works best especially when dipped in a matching glug and lobbed out with 4-5 crushed 18mm boilies in a PVA mesh stick, also soaked in the glug. As soon as I lob one out I make another on a spare braid to maximise the time in the water, this gives the glug more time to be absorbed.
The rigs are all safe free running leads on a clip with a brake bead half way up a 1.5 m leader. The runs are now all one toners and quite heavy hitting, there great.
I am off to Sumner’s pond, just down from Furnace lakes Horsham, for a week on Saturday, I hope I smash out the big one for Ocean Fresh.
