SSRR at Howels Farm, Carp Spawning

24/05/2010

Just got back from a Thursday to a Sunday fishing trip to Howells farm a very hot one when I got there the carp were spawning, nothing came during the night but come the morning I was up at 4.00am on a very misty morning and decided to do a bit of stalking.

The bait I was using was SSRR drilled out a little and put a bit of cork in it to make it semi buoyant. The rig I used was a blow back rig tied to a size 6 korda curv shank using 25lb matius braid with a inch hair. I found some very nice fish milling around in the shallows. I lost two of them trying but finally I hooked one properly. After a 10 minute fight I recognised it to be the long common.

Normally she weighed 30lbs but was looking like she had spawned out. Instead she went 23lb 8oz funny enough that day I also landed the smallest carp in the lake at 3lb 8oz.

On Saturday the last fish came out another common of 20lbs. Sunday finally came round. I had a great time, got a tan and first light I was up and ready to get off because I had a netting party to get to.

Tight lines to all
