GLM 31lb Common - Exploring the hole - Part 2

25/05/2010

It's the second weekend that I go fishing with baits from Ocean Fresh. As I wrote in the first short article I'm fishing very small (1 acre) water at the moment that is not well known. After my first session there I've done some research and found out that this small gravel pit is at least 100 years old. In the 19th century the people from the surrounding villages needed gravel, stones and sand to build their houses and that's where they took it from. In the 1960s a dredger was used to go deeper and gain more of the resources. Now I know a bit of the lake's history.

This weekend again I had no more time than for a short overnighter from Friday to Saturday. On Monday and Wednesday I put out half a kilo of Green Lipped Mussel 15mms. As I arrived on Friday evening there was another angler fishing on my pre-baited spot.  "Ok, don't panic", I thought and looked around for some signs. I decided to fish the edge on the other side. Sincerely, I hoped that the other fisherman had made enough noise, so that the fish would avoid that spot. The weather conditions got worse and a cold north east wind blew right into my face. Was that a good sign? I flicked out two single pop-up rigs into the margins. One near some bushes and the other on the gravel, where the water got deeper.

Nothing happened during the night. At 6am I tried to get 2 more hours of sleep until at 8.30am the alarm bell was ringing. Yes, it was the rod near the bushes with an 18mm single hookbait on!

Strike 2 on the Greenies with another beautiful common of 31.9lbs!

All the best Will
