Your Basket is Empty

After the blank start on the Berkshire pit apparently I had done quite well according to the people in the know. Problem was if everyone knows, it means that what you do and where you fish on the lake is noted. At the end of the day if your havin it off people will notice and even if they don’t know everything they will still get in to the “going swim”. Not that the one I was in was the going one so to speak, there are others that seem to be constantly occupied. One that did seem to be constantly occupied the next weekend I was down was? Would you believe it empty, now this was one that I wanted to get into at some point. Its proper carpy although from what I know it had only produced one fish. I am not sure about other anglers but even without putting a marker out you can see spots that you think will hold fish or fish will certainly visit. It also helped that over the next couple of days the wind was going to blow straight into that area and low pressure with rain were coming as well!An island in front around 80 yards with over hanging trees, that carries on to a bird feeding area, to the right the end of the island and a piece of water that hasn’t even seen a bait.
Again I am fishing for 1 fish at a time so I was made up with that one. Also it was in a new swim for me which made it even better.I got the rods back out but after that nothing else happened that night. If I am down for the weekend, unless I have had a fish the rods will stay out in at least 20 hours. So it was around lunch time on the Saturday that I brought the rods in and re baited the areas. Again 2.5kgs of garlic hemp with 18mm RSG mixed in and back on the spots. It was hot that day really hot there were kayaks and pedloes going through my swim after I had spodded. Not a bleep from them, always try to fish my line as slack as poss. Its quite funny watching the boating fraternity going over my spots without a clue that I am fishing there. When it got dusk the fish came alive on my left hand rod a fish topped right over it, I thought it was goanna scream off there and then. It didn’t but my right hand rod did! Absolute belter , I got control and this fish didn’t run run run it just kept chugging along using its weight, it seemed like an eternity before I got it to the net and for once I got it in first time.
After that I was proper made up. Timbo departed to his swim and I got the rod back out on the spot. Went to bed happy happy happy after a few ciders that is!
It was about 5am when the left hand rod screamed, I was on it like a jedi knight using the force. This one felt big and my heart was going like a rampant rabbit. I couldn’t believe it I had had 2 and I was into my 3rd. This time I wasn’t going to make a mistake and it went straight in the net first time. I thought it was bigger than the last, it did look it in the net. But it went 29lb. 15oz. I tried to bounce the scales but it wouldn’t go 30. Bothered.
