Coarse Fish - Overview

In today's coarse fishing sport there are many different types of fish which sportsmen target. British coarse fish anglers are some what different to our overseas counterparts, as we tend to fish only for pleasure purposes and only rarely take fish home. The two freshwater species which are most commonly eaten in UK are salmon and trout, and they mostly come from the northern part of the country where they breed and live naturally and are only caught on fly and spinning tactics. A rare freshwater fish which is served in top cuisine restaurants is the pike, but still we prefer to slip this one back and opt for the supermarket or fish 'n chip shops when we want to eat fish.

The most popular coarse fish in England is the carp and, while the Polish serve this fatty, greasy fish for Christmas day dinner, British carp anglers simply enjoy catching and releasing this fish, letting the magnificent creature grow to old ages heavy weights. Other popular coarse fish are barbel, bream, chub and roach. This section dives in to the scientific part of the coarse fish in our waters and their habitat.
