Dibber

A dibber is a small chunky pole float often used for carp fishing. I personally havent found these to have any particular advantage over any other type and because they tend to have a very small sight tip, so I tend not to use them.

This type of float needs far less shot to find its position in the water than many other floats, and its pretty simple to set up too. Around three number 8 shots should be enough, depending on the current of your chosen water. This technique is most effective in relatively shallow waters canals and river margins, for example.

Your line strength and hook size will, as with all types of coarse fishing, depend on your bait. Casters and maggots will probably require a size 20-22 hook, while meat or pellets, like sweetcorn, will require 14-16.
