The lift method is, I think, one the most exciting methods to use. Its so effective, yet so simple. I like to use the lift method for tench and carp when I feel the time is right - particularly early season, over lily beds.
Crow Quills and Flourocarbon
This technique is not for the faint of heart. Simply attach a 4/5 inch piece of crow quill to your line via a float band. Then, line low diameter flourocarbon 6lb+ directly onto your hook. Place all your shot within 3-4 inches of your hook, but use bulk shot 4aa+, not finesse. Your hook depends on your chosen bait. For worms or a big chunk of luncheon meat, for example, a size of around 6/4 inches will be good. If youre intending to use corn, or another kind of pellet, try 16\12. Essentially, just try to match your hook to your bait.
Thats pretty much it. But you dont dot the float down as usual. In fact, generally you should undershot the float if anything, so you can have more of the float showing. When the fish picks up the bait you either have a powerful take or the float will pop out of the water. Either way, strike quickly and hold on tight!
It may not sound like it, but this is a very sensitive way to fish.
